During the 19th century, feelings of nationalism emerged and brought a colossal change Europe , both mentally and politically . these changes became the reason behind the changed political system and multi national dynastic empires of Europe were replaced with nation states. this idea of modern state , where a clearly defined territory controlled by centralised power , had been developing in Europe , over a long period of time . the concept of nation state and nationalism came into being with both the rulers and citizens . they joined their hands and developed a sense of collective identity and shared history. the sense of commonness was forged through struggles and through common people .
