The process by which a new species develops from the existing species is known as speciation.

Speciation is caused due to three factors, which are:

  1. Geographical isolation: Caused due to reproductive isolation in separated groups of a population.
  2. Genetic drift: Caused due to changes in the gene flow imposed by the isolation mechanism.
  3. Natural selection: Caused due to genetic variation within a population of an organism.
