  1. When a solution of potassium iodide is added to a solution of lead nitrate taken in a test tube, the precipitation of a yellowish solid is observed. This yellowish solid is lead iodide. Potassium nitrate is formed along with lead iodide.
  2. This is a double displacement reaction.
  3.  When the two ionic compounds / elements exchange their ions is called Double Displacement Reaction.

The balanced chemical equation for the above reaction is:

Balanced Equation: Pb(NO3)2 + 2KI --- 2KNO3 + PbI2

Word Equation: lead nitrate + Potassium Iodide ---- Potassium Nitrate + Lead Iodide.
