Two measures adopted by Sri Lanka in 1956 as part of their majoritarianism policy were: 1) A act was passed under which Sinhala was made the country's official language replacing English. 2)The government followed policies that favoured the Sinhala applicants for university and government jobs. The new constitution fostered Buddhism. They denied citizenship to estate Tamil.
