Stomach also contains gastric glands which secrete gastric juices. These juices are pepsin,HCl and mucus.Pepsin helps to break down proteins into pepteoses and peptides.HCl makes the medium acidic, this is helpful as pepsin gets activated in acidic medium.Mucus protects the inner wall of stomach and prevents the acid to damage it.

The major role of the stomach in digestion is to churn the food properly coming from the esophagus so that small intestine can absorb the molecules. In the stomach, food and water are mixed properly to form a slurry known as chyme. After this process, the food is ready to move into the small intestine. The liver, gall bladder, and pancreas are known as the alimentary system of humans and together help in the process of digestion.
