Resolution of Disputes: The courts solve disputes which arise among citizens, between citizens and the Government, between the Central and State Governments, and between two or more State Governments.
Judicial Review: The judiciary is the guardian of the Constitution of the country. The High Courts and the Supreme Court of India can declare any law as illegal if it violates any provision of the Constitution.
Uphold the Laws: The judiciary enforces the laws in the country by punishing the people who are charged with the violation of the laws.
Appellate Jurisdiction: In an appellate jurisdiction, the verdict given by a lower court can be challenged in the higher court. For example, a person dissatisfied with the verdict given by the High Court can appeal in the Supreme Court. The decision of the Supreme Court is considered final and is binding on the lower courts.
Enforce Fundamental Rights: In case a citizen is deprived of his/her fundamental rights by the Government, he/she can approach the Supreme Court of India on the grounds of violation of his/her fundamental rights. Thus, the judiciary in India is the custodian of the fundamental rights of the citizens.
