0.4x + 0.3y=1.7...(1)
0.7x - 0.2y= 0.8...(2)
multiplying eq 1 by 2 & eq 2 by 3, we get
0.8x + 0.6y = 3.4..(3)
2.1x - 0.6y = 2.4..(4) now adding eq 3&4
2.9x= 5.8
x=5.8/2.9
x=2
putting the value of x in eq (1)
0.4×2 + 0.3y=1.7
0.3y= 1.7-0.8
y=0.9/0.3
y=3
Answer x=2 y=3
