A fuse is a circuit connection that will be destroyed by excessive current flow, creating an open circuit, to protect electrical appliances from receiving too high current. It is designed to be the weakest link in the circuit, which fall before the other components are damaged. The simplest fuses contain thin wire strips that melts when heated by excessive current flow. A fuse wire consists of low melting point and high resistivity and it is always connected in livewire.

It gets heated when excess current is drawn through it and melted due to its low resistance and low melting point. Hence the circuit get breakdown and save other appliances
