The difference between the horizontal division of power and vertical division of power are :
1. Horizontal Power sharing refers to the power sharing among the different organs of the government. For example, Legislature is empowered to legislate, the executive is empowered to executive the law and power of the judiciary is to implement the law.
. So here each organ exercises different powers at the same level.
. One organ observes the other.
2. Vertical Power Sharing refers to the power sharing among the different levels of the government. For example Central or Federal government has the power to make laws on subjects of national importance and execute the same. Similarly State government and local self-government looks after state and local subjects and issues.
. So In Vertical power sharing involves higher and lower levels of government and lower government works under the higher government.
