● Liberalism derived from a Latin root Iiber meaning free
● It has different meaning with respect to different people.
● For the middle class it stood for the freedom of individuals and equality before law.
● Politically it emphasize the concept of government by consent. Since the French Revolution it had stood for the the end of autocratic powers and encouraged the elected representative parliament.
● In economic terms it stood for the freedom of Markets and abolition of state imposed restrictions on the movement of goods and capital.
