(i) Agar is obtained commercially from Gelidium and Gracilaria which is widely used in the preparation of jellies, puddings, cream etc.

(ii) Some brown algae are meanace for shipping.

(iii) Some species of porphyra , laminaria and Sagassum are used as food.

(iv) AN antibiotic chlorellin is extracted out from Chlorella.
