Let son's age be x.
Son's age after 5 years.
x + 5
So,
According to given condition ,
Jacobs age = 3(x+5) = 3x+15
His present age = 3x +15 - 5
= 3x+10 ....................... (1)
Five years ago....
Son's age = x - 5
According to the given condition,
Jacobs age = 7(x - 5)
Jacobs age = 7x - 35
His present age = 7x - 35 + 5 = 7x - 30 . . . . . . . .. . . . . . (2)
from(1) and (2)
3x + 10 = 7x - 30
10 + 30 = 7x - 3x
40 = 4x
{tex}x = \frac{40}{4}{/tex}
x = 10
So,
His sons present age is 10years.
Present age of Jacob=
3x + 10 ...............................from(1)
3(10)+10 = 30 + 10 = 40years.
