The power station where electricity is produced by using the energy of flowing water to drive generators is called hydro power plant or hydroelectric power station. The energy conservation that take place in hydro power plant are as follows: 1.The water is collected in a large reservoir or manmade Lake behind the dam. In this process the kinetic energy of flowing water gets transformed into potential energy of water stored behind the dam. 2. The water falls from a high level of the dam it flows at a very high speed. The potential energy of water gets converted into kinetic energy. 3. The kinetic energy of flowing water rotates the Blades of the turbine. Here the kinetic energy of flowing water is converted into mechanical energy of the turbine. 4. The moving armature of the generator in the magnetic field generate electricity. Here the mechanical energy of the turbine is converted into electrical energy in the generator.
