  • A system of control and coordination is essential in living organisms so that the different body parts can function as a single unit to maintain homeostasis as well as respond to various stimuli.
  • In animals, the nervous system and hormonal system are responsible for control and coordination.

Neurons are specialized cells of the nervous system. They use electrical and chemical signals for transferring information.

    Functions of nervous system:

  • The function of the nervous system is to coordinate the activities of our body.
  • It helps all other systems of our body to work together.
  • It receives information from the surroundings, processes it, interprets it and then responds accordingly. However, the endocrine glands do not have ducts to secrete their hormones. They release hormones directly into the blood of a person and reach the concerned body part through the blood and act on it.
