When ethanoic acid is added to sodium carbonate, 2CH3COOH+Na2CO3------>2CH3COONa + H2O+CO2 i.e CO2 gas is evolved. This can be proved by taking a burning candle near the testube;the flame extinguishes because CO2 is not a supporter of combustion. Or you can take some limewater;it will turn milky.

CO2 is released. It can be detected by passing it through lime water and it will turn it milky
