The idea of sul-i- hul was introduced by Akbar the great.The idea of sul-i- hul was based on the idea of tolerance which did not discriminate betweenvthe people of different religions in his realm.

Sulh-i kul was a policy started by  the Mughal emperor Akbar. He met with learned brahmins in the ibadat-khana and dicussed with them. Then he learnt that the brahmins emphasised dogma and were often bigots.  Sulh-i kul literally means universal peace. It tried to stop discrimination in the relgion
