As magnesium is highly reactive it reacts with air and forms and coating if magbesium oxide on the surface of ribbon. Therefore in order to remove the layer of the coating of magnesiun oxide, we should rub magnesium ribbon with a sand paper so that we can get the pure product after burning in air.. If my answer is well then ask me more doubts plz???
