x +y = 8 xy = 15 x+y =8 Squaring both side (x+y)^2={8}^2 x^2+y^2+2xy=64…........(xy=15) x^2+y^2+30=64 x^2+y^2=64-30 x^2+y^2=34

x + y = 8 ............ (i)

xy = 15 ........... (ii)

(x+y)² = 8²

x² + y²+ xy = 64

x² + y² + 15 = 64

x² + y² = 64 - 15

x² + y²= 49
