Let the radius of the earth=r Radius of the moon=r/4 Surface area of a sphere=4Πr2 Since,the earth as well as moon are considered to be sphere. Surface area of earth=4Πr2 Surface area of moon=4Π(r/4)2 Surface area of earth /Surface area of moon=4Πr2/4Π(r/4)2=r2/(r/4)2=16r2/r2=16/1=16:1
