The elements of group 1 are alkali metals, which are highly electropositive, while the elements of group 17 are halogens, which are highly electronegative non-metals. Thus, the compounds formed between the elements of these two groups will be ionic compounds, since they will be formed by the transfer of electrons. Following are some expected properties of these compounds
1) They will have high melting and boiling points.
2) They will conduct electricity either in the molten state or in the aqueous state.
