Psychometric approach : focuses on the measurement of capacities (considers intelligence as an aggregate of abilities. Expressed the individual's performance in terms of a single index of cognitive abilities.) Examples : two factor theory, structure of intellect model etc. Information processing approach : focuses on the measurement of processes. (processes people use in intellectual reasoning and problem solving) Examples : triarchic theory of intelligence, PASS model.

Psychometric approach emphasises on the underlying structure or building blocks of intelligence and expresses intelligence as a single index of cognitive abilities while the information processing approach focusses on how an intelligent person acts and the processes that underlie problem solving and logical thinking.
