1). It is effect in which the electrons between nucleus and the outer electron repel them and hence reduces the effect of the nuclear attraction force on them. 2) we also find this effect with electrostatic relation. It is a effect in which the effect of outer charges can not go inside the conductor body and vice versa. This is called ELECTROSTATIC SHIELDING... Hope it may help you...

In a multi-electron atom the valence electron experience attraction by the nucleus, and repulsion by the electrons of inner-shells. This combined effect of attraction and repulsion force acting on the valence-electron, makes the electron experiences less attraction from the nucleus. This is called shielding or screening effect.
