Marfa Vasileva was a milling machine operator at a factory, which was located at the right banks of Neva river. When discontent saw an exponential increase due to the incidents in Putilov Iron Works, she came into action. She organized strikes with her female mates and soon, the males downed their tools. Through her courage and yearning for change, she became one of the trigger causes of the February Revolution which led to the Tsar's abdication. The day of the strike by female workers came to be celebrated as "International Women's Day"
