This is because of small size of oxygen as a result of which electrons of oxygen experiences repulsions among themselves and the incoming electron experiences it to;thus causing electron gain enthalpy to decrease (less negative)

Because of the compact nature of oxygen atom, it has less - ve electron gain enthalpy than sulphur.
