Visualising the nation: 1. Artists personified the portrayed nation as female figure. 2. Artists used the female allegory to portray ideas such as liberty,Justice and the republic. 3. Statues of Marianne were erected in public squares to remind the national symbol of unity. 4. Marianne images were marked on coins and stamps. 5. Germania became the allegory of the German nation. She wears a crown of oak leaves, as the German oak stands for heroism.
