The monthly salary of a person was rupees320 for each of the first three years. He then got an annual increment of rupees 40 per month for each of the following successive 12years. His salary remained constant till retirement and he calculated that his average monthly salary during the service period was rupees 698. Find the period of his service

    Total salary for first 3 years= (36× 320) =11520 Salary after 12 years = 360 +(12-1)40 =360+440=800 =Total Salary after 3 years and so on for 12 years = 360 × 12+400× 12 ans so on =12× (360+400...) =12×[12/2× {360+(12-1) ×40} =12×[6×(360+440)] =12×6×800 =57600 Let the remaining months of service be x. Now (57600+11520+ 800×x)/36+144+x =698 (69120+800x)/180+x=698 69120+800x= 698×180+698x 102x=56520 x=554 46 years Now his entire service life is 3+12+46=61years
