By conservation of momentum
m1v1 = – m2v2
∴ |(v1 / v2)| = |(m2 / m1)|
Given : (v1 / v2) = (8 / 1) hence |(m2 / m1)| = (8 / 1) .......(1)
Also mass = density × volume
∴ (m1 / m2) = [{(4 / 3)πr13 × ρ} / {(4 / 3)πr23 × ρ}] = (r1 / r2)3 .....(2)
∴ from (1) & (2)
(r2 / r1)3 = (8 / 1)
(r2 / r1) = (2 / 1)
(r1 / r2) = (1 / 2)
