Definition: a political party is a group of people who come together to contest elections and hold power in the government. It has three components:- 1. The leaders 2. The active members 3. The followers. Major functions of the political parties are. 1. Contest elections 2. Put forward different policies and programmes 3. Make law of a country 4. Form and run the government 5. Shape public opinion 6. Parties that loose in elections play the role of opposition.
