The bending of light while travelling from one medium to another is called refraction of light. Refraction takes place because there is a change in the velocity of light travelling from one medium to the other. But this does not truly answer reason behind the bending of the light. For example, if you are in a car and your car slows down moving in a straight road it will not necessarily take on a bent path.
