Carbon does not exist in C4+ and C4- form because it has then 6 proton and 10 electron . And it is very difficult for 6 proton to hold 10 electron .whereas it even do not exist in C4+ form because large a amount of energy is required to lose 4 electron.

It would be unstable if it aquire C4+ orC4- form so to be stable carbon shares it electrons and makes covalent bond
