Electronic configuration-11=2,8,1 For 16-2,8,6 Bonds=X will form ionic bond and Y will form covalent bond.

X= 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s1

Y= 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p4

X will form an ionic bond as it can easily lose on e from outer shell

Y will form a covalent bond as it can't lose e and only can share

As the valence of X is 1 and y is 4 so they can form X4Y

Electronic configuration of X = 11= 2,8,1 and Y= 16 = 2,8,6 . They form ionic bond. Formula - Na2S.
