Add it here! sweta73 sweta73 Ambitious Town planning - The most striking feature of the harappan civilisation is its urban or town planning. The Indus cities differed from the Sumerian cities in mesopotamian civilisation, modern Iraq. The characteristics of town planning are - 1) Each city was divided into two parts , the raised area called the Citadel and the lower town . 2) The main streets followed a grid pattern running from north to south or from east to west . 3)The houses at street corners were rounded to allow carts to pass easily. 4) House drains emptied all waste water into the street drains . Artefacts The harappan art included figurines of clay and terracotta , stone , and bronze sculpture , seals and beads and product of skilled craftsmen .A piece of woven cotton was discovered from Mohenjo-daro and textile impressions . The weaving was an important craft during harappan civilisation .

Town Planning of Harappa Civilization. ... In the excavated sites, the Harappan settlements were found built of mud bricks, burnt bricks and chiselled stones. Mud Bricks were largely used at Harappa, Kalibangan, Lothal and Banawali besides burnt bricks. The size of bricks remained the same everywhere.
