Cumene/isopropyl benzene + oxygen with metal catalyst and temp<130C forms Cumene hydroperoxide. Cumene hydroperoxide get hydrolysis with some heat forms phenol + acetone

4-methylphenol is more acidic than propan-1-ol becoz phenol are stronger acids than alcohols, because the phenoxide ion left after the removal of Proton is stabilised by resonance while the alkoxide ion left the removal of a Proton from alcohol is not stabilise thus propan-1-ol is much weaker acid than any phenol. so, 4-methylphenol is more acidic than propan-1-ol. ? smjhe. ?

there is no any such mechanism in our syllabus. but just remind this on aerial oxidation at 368-408k from cumene hydroperoxide which upon subsequent hydrolysis with an aq. acid gives phenol and acetone.

When cumene converted to cumene hydroperoxide...is there any mechanism of it?? I mean how hydroperoxide is formed?....If there is no any such mechanism then no prblm.... thanks again 4 the help?

From cumene (isopropyl benzene) is oxidised in presence of air to cumene hydroperoxide. it is decomposed to phenol and acetone by treating with acid, Acetone the by product of this rxn Is also obtain in large quantities.
