Due to absence of d orbital in N of NH3 so there is no repulsion of electrons as compair to H2O or NH3 have no lone pair to repal hydrogen atom

And we know that more the H-bonding more is the close packing of molecules

Deeya Singh 6 years, 2 months ago

Hydrogen bonding in H2O is more intense and strong than in NH3 because one O of H2O can form 2 H-bonds with other molecules due to availability of 2 lone pairs. Whereas in NH3, there is only 1 lone pair over N therefore it forms only 1 H-bonds with other molecules
