In nucleophilic substitution reaction the incoming nucleophile having atleast one atom with lone pair of electrons attack at the carbon atom bonded to halogen. The halide ion leaves with the bond pair of electrons. The incoming nucleophile may be neutral or negatively charged and the substrate on which nucleophile attacks may be neutral or positively charged.
