Silver is a group 11 transition metal in the 5th period of Periodic table with symbol Ag (Argentum from Latin word). The atomic number is 47. The electrons per shell is 2, 8, 18, 18, 1.
In most case the valency of Ag is 1, as the d sub-shell has stable configuration if they loss 1 electrons from s sub-shell. There fore the most common valency of silver is 1. But in some exceptional cases it exhibit valency as 2, when it loses electrons from the stable d sub-shell to exhibit transition property of metals.
