I = md^2 + I(centre of mass) According to the parallel axis theorem the moment of inertia of any rigid body about any axis is equal to the moment of inertia of the body about the another Axis passing through the centre of the mass of the body in the direction parallel to the given Axis the product of the total mass of the body M and the square of the separation distance between the two parallel Axes is shown in figure
