Industrially reduction reaction is used in blast furnace, used for smelting to produce iron. Iron is produced by chemically reducing iron oxide to molten iron.
3Fe2O3 + CO → CO2 + 2Fe3O4
Fe3O4 + CO → CO2 + 3FeO
FeO + CO → CO2 + Fe

Industrial applications of Reduction reaction is in batteries and cells. In dry cell, the zinc case serves as the anode and reduction of MnO2 takes place. Reaction is-
{tex}Zn + 2MnO_2 + 2NH^{4+}\to Zn^{2+} + Mn_2O_3 + 2NH_3 + H_2O {/tex}
Dry cells cannot be recharged, so they are one-use only.
