Politically, liberalism stood for
(i) Constitution;
(ii) a democratic government ruling by authority;
(iii) an administrative system and;
(iv) possession of private property;
(v) end of the rights of the aristocracy.
Economically, liberalism stood for
(i) Liberation of markets;
(ii) End of state limitations on the mobility of goods and capital;
(iii) A cultures union or Zollverein was established by Prussia in 1834, which many German states associated.
(iv) This union decreased the number of currencies from over thirty to two and eliminated tariff barriers;
(v) A network of railways led to great mobility and gave an impetus to widespread unity. It boosted economic nationalism.
