Overseas trade brought about economic prosperity in the country:
a. Traders from Gujarat which included communities of Hindu Baniyas and Muslim Bohras, traded extensively for instance, with the ports of the Red Sea, Persian Gulf, East Africa, Southeast Asia and China.
b. They sold textiles and spices were sold in these ports and, in exchange, got gold and ivory from Africa ,Chinese blue pottery and silver from Southeast Asia and China.
c.Indian spices and cloth were sold in the Red Sea ports which then reached European markets, making a huge market for them in Europe.
d. For example, Surat emerged as an important commercial centre. It was one of the biggest ports and the gateway of trade with West Asia via the Gulf ofOrmuz.
