Because sodium is highly reactive metal and catches fire when kept in open hence, it is kept in kerosene oil to reduce it reactivity and to stop the reaction of carbon with air

Sodium is kept in kerosene oil bcoz of its highly reactive property with the atmosphere .sodium can catch fire if it is kept in open air so it is kept in kerosene to prevent frim catching fire.

It reacts vigorously with oxygen when kept open and cathes fire . So, we kept sodium in kerosene oil.
