Temples were destroyed because when some rulers such as Sultan Muhammad of Ghazni, fight warfare, they targeted the wealthy temples and after their win in the warfare they looted the temples. For an example, Muhammad Ghani have looted Somnath, Gujrat (which was one of the wealthiest temple of India) and built his capital. THANKS.

Temples were destroyed because kings built temples to demonstrate their devotion to God and their power and wealth. It is not surprising that when they attacked one another’s kingdoms they often targeted these buildings.
