    International trade has undergone major changes in the last 15 years. The exchange of commodities and goods has improved trade relations of India with all the major trading blocks and all geographical regions of the world. India has emerged as a software giant and has been earning a huge amount of foreign exchange through the export of information technology. India’s share of exports and imports are as follows (as per 2010-11):
    Major Exports:

    1. The share of agriculture and allied products-9.9%
    2. Ores and minerals—4.0%
    3. Gems and jewellery-14.7%
    4. Petroleum products and coal —16.8%

    Major Imports:

    1. Petroleum and petroleum products-28.6%
    2. Pearl and precious stones-9.4%
    3. Chemicals-5.2%
    4. Coal, coke and briquettes-2.7%
    5. Machinery-6.4%
