Rowlatt act was passed in 1919 by the Imperial Legislative Council. The Indian members did not support the act, but it was passed. It the the power to government that it can arrest anybody without a trial for 2 years. The act gave enormous powers to the British Government to repress political activities. On 6th April 1919 Gandhi ji launched a nationwide satyagrah against this act.
