Roasting:- It is a process in which metal sulphide ore are strongly heated below its melting point in the presence of oxygen is known as roasting. Ex.ZnS,HgS,Cu2S. Calcination:- It is a process in which ores are strongly heated below its melting point in the absence of oxygen is known as calcination. Ex.ZnCO3,Cu2O.

Calcination is the process of heating metal carbonates in the absence of excess of air. Roasting is a process in which metal sulphides are heated in the presence of excess of air.
