During the process of electrolysis when electricity is pased through the brine (sodium chloride) than it forms sodium hydroxide, chlorine gas and hydrogen gas. Hydrogen gas due to positive charge colloected at cathode and chlorine gas due to negative charge collected at anode. Sofium hydroxide solution is formed near cathode. The process is called chlor alkali process where chlor means chlorine and alkali means Sodium hydroxide.
