The engine of the train passes an electric pole with velocity u and the last compartment of the train crosses same pole with the velocity v . Then find the velocity with which mid point of the train passes the pole . Assume acceleration to be uniforms .

Let a be the acceleration of the train and x be the length of the train. Since the two ends of the train passes the electric pole with velocities u and v, it means that the velocity of train changes from u and v over a distance x. Now, v²-u²=2ax. (1)... Let V be the velocity of the middle point of the tain, when it passes electric pole. Since the distance of the middle point of the train from the either end of the train is x/2, it means velocity of the train changes from u to V over a distance x/2. Now, V²-u²=2a(x/2) V²-u²=ax. (2)... From (1)... and (2)... V={(u²+v²)/2}½
