Abolition of Slavery in France :

  • the slave trade begin in the 17th century. The Caribbean colonies like martinque , Guadeloupe and San Domingo were the supplies of tobacco , indigo , sugar and coffee .
  •  the Europeans were not to willing to go to an unfamiliar land that was so far from their home this resulted in the shortage of workers in the plantation.
  •  this problem was solved by a triangular slave trade between Europe Africa and America.
  •  the national assembly held long debates whether the rights of man should be extended to French subjects including those French colonies but at first they didn't pass any last because they were afraid of getting opposed by the French Businessman whose incomes depended on the slavery trade.
  •  in 1794 the convention finally passed last to abolish slavery in the French overseas possessions but this was Reintroduced by Napoleon Bonaparte a military Dictator in 1804 slavery was finally abolished in 1848 in France.
