After the death of his pet dog, the author became disappointed. In the early of 1956, the author travelled to Southern Iraq. There he saw people had otters as pets. So he too decided to keep an otter as a pet instead of a dog. As Camusfearna was ringed by water, it would be an eminently suitable spot for otter.
