After 1st world war, when Turkey was defeated., A rumar spread that a harsh treaty was going to impose on khalifa( a spritual head of islam). To oppose this treaty and to defend khalifa's power a committee was formed by Muhammad Ali and Shaukat Ali. They got the support of Mahatma Gandhi to start a movement against treaty and to defend Khalifa's power.
